The Camp

Lordsburg’s internment and POW camp was the Army’s only purpose-built facility intended to house resident enemy alien Japanese and later Italian and German prisoners. In operation from 1942 to 1945, it became one of the nation’s most important camps during World War II.

The Museum

Housing countless artifacts from the camp, the Lordsburg-Hidalgo County Museum has a room dedicated to the history of Camp Lordsburg. Original artwork, crafts made by prisoners, historic photos, equipment, and parts of the barracks are all on exhibit daily at the museum.

Mollie Pressler

The foremost expert on the internment and POW camp in Hidalgo County, Mollie Pressler has been researching the subject for more than 40 years. She is a lifelong educator who has presented talks on the camp to audiences across the US. This is her first book. She lives in Lordsburg.
